Cootehill Arts Festival puts call out for participants

The annual Cootehill Arts Festival have announced details of the programme of events for their five day celebration of everything that falls under the banner of arts. The festival, which is launched tomorrow [Friday] by Minister Heather Humphreys, will run from August 22 to 27.

This year CAF is building on its growing reputation to offer the public a varied programme. One of the highlights of the programme will be the Footsbarn Theatre Co who will be staging four performances at the Comprehensive School.

The organisers are putting out a call to the public for people to participate in an open performance. The Cootehill Arts Festival is providing a platform for anyone with a story or poem they would like to read or play a piece of music.

Sunday August 27 the 'Festival Miscellany' will feature six or seven short stories or poems read by their authors, plus five or six musical pieces. The music will be traditional, classical, jazz or contemporary. The entire programme will run to about 75 minutes.

It commences at 11:00am and takes place in the White Star Centre. It is anticipated that the programme may be broadcast, either live or retrospective.

Othere features of the programme are The Flight 116 Commemorative Concert (in Footsbarn Tent) on Friday 25th, Tyrone Guthrie Centre Art Exhibition (in Library), readings by Shane Connaughton, Brian Leyden and Pat McCabe and the David Gallagher commemorative Art (Sculpture & Painting) Exhibition in the Enterprise Centre, Station Road . The highpoint will be the mega Concert on Sunday 27 also in the Footsbarn Tent.

This Friday Minister Heather Humphreys, will launch the programme of events at the Errigal Hotel at 10:00am.

If you are interested in performing in the 'Festival Miscellany” you can submit a scripts of between 600 and 700 words, on any topic, personal memory, funny or serious story, local history/anecdote, or whatever takes your fancy. You can submit your story or poem (14 - 30 lines) in a sealed envelope marked CAF/Story or CAF/Poem.

Applications for the music slots (CAF/Music) should indicate names of musicians, instrument/s and a two to three minute piece intended.

All applications to Cootehill Library, Bridge St., Cootehill before 31 July – selected readers and musicians will be given a minimum of 10 days notice of inclusion in programme.
