Two of three teenagers arrested in connection with burglaries in the Cavan Town area last week have appeared before a special sitting of Monaghan District Court

A juvenile male appeared before Judge Denis McLoughlin on Saturday afternoon last, from where he was remanded in custody to Oberstown Children Detention Campus, from where will appear again before the sitting Cavan District Court this Thursday coming.

He is charged with two counts of alleged burglary, two counts of alleged criminal damage, the alleged unlawful taking of a vehicle, and alleged dangerous driving, the incidents occurring at two separate locations, a pub and a restaurant, in Cavan Town on September 15 last.

A second juvenile also arrested was released from custody on Friday, and a file is now being prepared to be sent to the office of Director of Public Prosecutions.

A third male, a non-juvenile, who had been released from custody without charge on Friday evening in order to receive medical treatment at Cavan General Hospital, was subsequently rearrested after stealing a vehicle in the vicinity of the local medical facility.

He was apprehended by gardai, and he too appeared before Judge McLoughlin at the weekend's special court sitting.

He is charged with the alleged unlawful taking of a vehicle, and was remanded in custody to Castlerea Prison to appear before the Cavan Court this coming Thursday.

Gardai had earlier revealed that they arrested the trio after recovering a car which had been taken following an alleged burglary at a public house in Cavan town

It failed to stop at around 6am last Friday when requested to do so by Gardaí patrolling the N3 Dublin Road, who followed the vehicle to Stradone village where it crashed into a ditch.

The occupants of the car fled the scene on foot, and during a follow up search three young men aged in their teens were arrested.

Along with the car, gardai also recovered along with a sum of cash alleged to have been taken during the burglary of the pub hours earlier.
