Vigil in memory of Savita

Cavan Pro-Choice will hold a vigil in Market Square, Cavan Town on Saturday to mark the fifth anniversary of the death of Savita Halappanavar.

Savita died in University Hospital Galway following miscarriage related sepsis in October 2012.

Nikita McHugh from the Cavan Pro-Choice group says the vigil is part of a number of events across the country to mark the anniversary: “In response to a call for national solidarity from Galway Pro-Choice, the Abortion Rights Campaign and Coalition to Repeal the Eighth Amendment, Cavan Pro-Choice will hold a vigil to commemorate Savita Halappanavar on the 5th Anniversary of her tragic and unnecessary death. People will gather in Market Square from 6pm on Saturday, October 28, and all are welcome.”

In addition to the 22 events happening across Ireland, there will also be vigils in London and New York.
