Fairytale start for Cavan song

A new musical treasure extolling the virtues of Cavan has been attracting a lot of attention since it's YouTube launch. Fairytale of Cavan is a melodic offering from the pen of Daire O'Reilly.

It has been brought to life by a host of talented musicians and the Cavan Institute Music Production students. Daire gave the Celt a bit of background to the video promoting the song: “It's a project by Cavan Institute music production students. We asked the multi-media department if they wanted to shoot a video while we did it.”

The video features a lot of familiar faces faces and places from Cavan. 'The Fairytale of Cavan Town' features The Cavan Singers, Cavan Sinfonia Orchestra, The Cavan Rugby Club Choir, The Cavan Big Band, Cavan Institute Music Performance and Production students, The Song Sisters, Pat Tierney, Enda McDermott, Martin Cosgrove, Michael Cunningham, Fergal McCaul along with other musicians and singers from around the town and county.

The song with be the centrepiece of an upcoming gala concert in the Farnham Arms Hotel next week showcasing the wealth of local musical talent. It will also be the launch the CD single into the bargain.

Proceeds from the event will go to Cavan Autism Parents Support Group (CAPS), as part of Autism Awareness month. “The process was great,” Daire said of the music video, “Putting things like that together is good fun. When it gets such a positive reaction, as it is getting online, it makes it all worthwhile.”

 

“Donna McCarron is the tutor in Cavan Institute Multi Media Department. She has done a great job with the video,” Daire explained. He said Fairytale... is the Music Production students' annual musical project and the music students will showcase their talents on stage at the launch with some of the other groups. The multi-media students also designed the cover of the CD.

‘The Fairytale of Cavan Town’ single, is on sale now on the counter tops in a range of shops and establishments in Cavan town. The concert takes place on Friday, April 13 at the Farnham Arms Hotel. Doors open at 7.30pm and the concert commences at 8pm. Admission is €10; tickets available at the door.
