BREAKING: Cavan v Tipp to go ahead this Sunday

Paul Fitzpatrick

Cavan’s crunch Allianz League round seven clash against Tipperary will go ahead this Sunday (3pm, Kingspan Breffni) after the GAA released its fixtures this afternoon.

With Tipperary’s round six clash with Down being postponed on Sunday, there was some confusion as to when Cavan would meet the Munster side, with the GAA keen to avoid postponing the league final, which is scheduled for April 1 in Croke Park.

However, in something of a novel solution, Cavan will now play Tipperary as scheduled. Should the home side win, they will play Roscommon  in the final; with Down and Tipperary meeting the same weekend.

Victory would see Cavan promoted to Division 1; an away win would consign Cavan to third place unless Cork defeated Roscommon and Down defeated Tipp, which would leave a three-way tie and result in score difference being employed.

In the event of a draw, Tipperary would also be likely to go up unless they drew with or were beaten heavily by Down (see league table below).
