Death of Jim Clarke, Main Street, Mullagh.
The recent sudden death of Mr. Jim Clarke, Main Street, Mullagh left all in his home town of Mullagh and surrounding area in deep shock. Jim, was a well-known personality and was a highly successful Chartered Accountant with a thriving business in both Bailieboro and Mullagh. In Jim's professional capacity he met with a great deal of people many of those with whom he formed close friendships during his long years in his accountancy practice.
Many interests
Jim had many interests, ranging from fishing, shooting and golf but none compared to his love of Gaelic football. His commitment to his home club, Cuchulainns G.F.C. was evident for all to see. While his two brothers, Charles and Noel were playing members over many years, his greatest pride came when his son, Seamus, continued the family tradition and played through all the under-age structures right up to the present day where is now a regular with the Cuchulainns senior team. Jim took charge of the club's under-16 side alongside his cousin, Brendan during the period 1999 -2000 where they achieved some success. In their first season, they lost out narrowly to Ballyhaise in the U-16 league final. The following year, the same side went on to win the Division 2 minor league title. This was a crowning moment for Jim who had put a great deal of effort into forming and shaping this team. His efforts were enormous, ensuring that all players were kitted out and looked after. It was a common sight throughout that period to see many of the team enjoying tea and sandwiches in Jim's home on Main Street. His belief that the youth should be catered for, was further in evidence when, he brought the entire squad to Sligo for a week-end at his own expense. Jim's generosity to his club did not end with the juveniles, as he was equally involved in sponsorhip at other levels in the club.
G.A.A. supporter
He was a keen follower of the Cavan senior team and was a supporter of all grades of Cavan football. A private individual, Jim, quietly helped many people in his professional capacity without any monetary reward. It was something that he kept quietly to himself and to those that he helped out. Jim was foremost a family man and was immensely proud of his family of four daughters, Yvonne, Aishling, Aoife and Ursula and his son Seamus. He held them close to his heart and was diligent in following their path through life encouraging them throughout in their choice of careers. His joy in their achievements was something that he drew great solace from. Jim's parents the late Michael (Mick) and Margaret Clarke had been involved in the commercial life of Mullagh as butchers for many years, with a commercial premises on the Main Street, Mullagh. He was predeceased by his brothers, Michael and Paddy and since his own bereavement, by his younger brother, Charles. He is survived by his wife, Ailish; daughters, Yvonne, Aishling, Aoife and Ursula and son Seamus; brother, Noel, (Mullagh); sisters Rhoda and Margaret (both resising in England) to whom sympathy is extended.
