Community shocked following death of Philip Clarke

The community was greatly shocked and saddened to learn of the death of Philip Clarke, Ardkill last Wednesday. Philip was the second youngest of the family of the late Thomas and Ainnie Clarke. He was predeceased by his sister Betty a few years ago. Philip was a very special person in this community. He lived alone and was greatly appreciated and valued not alone in his own family circle but among his neighbours and friends.

He lived life his way, caring little for the trials and trappings of grandeur of modern lifestyles. He carried his cross of ill health very bravely with a smile and friendly greeting for all who had the privilege of knowing him. His gentle presence will be greatly missed at Mass in Drumavaddy at weekends and in Danny's shop where he visited daily. The removal of the remains took place to St.Matthew's Church Drumavaddy on Friday evening. He was laid to rest following Requiem Mass on Saturday in the local cemetery. Sympathy to his family, Tomseen, Seamus, Mae and Anna, his aunts, Annie Keogh and Rita Galligan, nieces, nephews , cousins , relatives and friends.

The death took place in Cavan General Hospital of John Monahan, Drumbarry. He was ill for a short time and his untimely death was much regretted in the community. He was a farmer and was greatly respected for his hard work and dedication to his family. He was a keen GAA supporter and played with the Drumavaddy team. The removal of the remains took place from his home in Drumbarry to St. Matthew's Church Drumavaddy on Friday evening. Denn GFC formed a guard of honour. He was laid to rest following Requiem Mass on Saturday in the local cemetery. The was a large attendance at both ceremonies, testament to the respect in which he was held. He was predeceased by his sister Lizzie  some years ago. Deepest sympathy to his wife, Bridie, his family John, Emmet and Martin, grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends.
