Bereaved

It was with shock and sadness that the sudden death of a lovely local girl was received by all in her native Drumeela, Carrigallen area, last week. Our thoughts and prayers are extended to Therese McGurran's family. Therese's removal took place from Tullamore to St. Mary's church, Drumeela.  The respect and friendship for the family was evident in a very packed church with as many people again waiting to pay their sincere sympathy to the family.  No words would ease the grief of each

and everyone. Therese along with her sisters, Deirdre, Aisling, Fiona and her brother Barry attended Drumeela NS and Carrigallen VS. May God help and bless each and everyone of Therese's family, relatives and many many friends during this very sad time.

Farewell Josephine

On Friday 30th November, local lady Josephine Maguire took sick and was admitted to hospital.  While we thought we would see Josephine back in the home she loved, singing in the St. Mary's Church Choir, a choir that she never missed, let it be raining, snowing or frost.  This was not to be as on Sunday morning 9th December, God had a place in his Garden for a great lover of flowers and he gently called Josephine home to join her husband Phil, her brother and parents, along with her granddaugher

Shannon Celine.  Josephine was born in 1925, daughter of Jane and Annie Kiernan, in the townland of Cloncoose.  Her brother John Joe sadly died at the age of 14 years.  Shortly before John Joe died, a first cousin, a young boy of just four years lost his mother.  His name was Martin Daly and he came to live in the Kiernan household.  He and Josie were more like brother and sister than first cousins. Jospehine's life was then dedicated to her parents, working hard on the family farm through hard times, no luxuries as there are now on the farm or in the home.

She had a fantastic record of 60 years membership of the Drumeela PTAA.  Back in 1997 Josephine received her Gold Pioneer Pin at a ceremony in St. Mary's church, Drumeela.  Josephine was also a member of the Red Cross during the 1940s and 1950s.  The family has a most beautiful memento  - a lovely photo of Josephine and Philip on their wedding day in 1953.  This is only one of numerous photos that Josephine kept and each one is dated and full details on the back of each photo.  Philip was a member of the well known Maguire family in Drumlara, Killeshandra. They built their home in Cloncoose and settled down to married life.  They were just three weeks short of their 50th wedding anniversary when Phil died in July 2003.  Right up to the last couple of years, mention the words " I need flowers", let it be for the Altar Society or for that special event. The very popular words were said in reply "Go to Josephine Maguire, she has a garden full of colours and different types of flowers".

Josephine loved nature from the animals on the farm to the flowers in her garden and along the entrance to her residence.  It was with a heart and a half that she gave of her prize flowers to each and everyone who called and helped themselves.  Josephine was a member of St. Mary's Church Altar Society for over 30 years.  Right up to  her death Josephine still had that genuine love for the flowers, shrubs and trees, not only in her own garden but at any house.  Josephine's removal took place on Monday evening to St. Mary's church, Drumeela and the funeral with burial was on Tuesday morning.  Our sincere sympathy to

Josephine's son, John, daughter-in-law Jackie, grandchildren Aisling, Tanisha and Evan, Newtowngore. To her very close cousin Martin Daly and all the Daly family. Her sisters-in-law Mary and Bridie Maguire, her many many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends we extend our sympathy to all.
