Fined €400 for failing to obey garda direction

PHILIP Mooney, 70 Drumnaveil, Cootehill was fined €400 at a sitting of Cootehill District Court last week for failing to comply with a guard directing him to leave Market Street on 22nd April this year. An offence of being intoxicated in a public place was taken into consideration.

Defendant fined €300 for threatening behaviour

EMMET Roche (29) of 7 Kilmainhamwood, Kells Co Meath, was fined €300 and given a three month suspended sentence on his entering a peace bond for two years for a repeat public order offence, at a sitting of Cootehill District Court last week.  The defendant was charged with engaging in or using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour or words at The White Horse Hotel on September 16 this year. The court heard that he had previous convictions for assault causing harm and criminal damage.  "He's skating on thin ice as far as prison is concerned", Judge MacBride said.

 

Bound to the peace after public order offences

MICHAEL West of 20 Boyher, Rockcorry, Monaghan, was bound to the peace for one year and fined €350 for public order offences, at a sitting of Cootehill District Court. The defendant, who was charged with being intoxicated in a public place and engaging in or using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour or words on 19th August this year at Drumore, Cootehill, is liable for one month in Castlerea in breach of the bond.  The court heard that gardai arrived at the scene of a violent incident involving a large number of people looking for a fight with foreign nationals.  The gardai dispersed the crowd but the defendant refused to leave.

Motorist banned after drink-driving

ANDRZEJ Szymanski of 5 Old Bridge Road, Cootehill, was fined €350 at Cootehill District Court last week and disqualified from driving for two years and three months for drink driving at Errigal, Cootehill on 5th November last year.

Judge gives publican benefit of Probation Act

AT a sitting of Cootehill District Court last week, Judge Sean MacBride gave a publican the benefit of the Probation of the Offenders Act on payment of €500 to Drumlin House.  Eammon Denning, The Stray Sod, Drung, was before the court for permitting persons on a licensed premise after hours on 18th May this year.  The court heard that the defendant had a previous good record.

Defendant given suspended sentence after threatening behaviour 

PAUL Barry of 78 Bridge Street, Cootehill was fined €500 at Cootehill District Court last week and given a two-month sentence, suspended on him entering a peace bond for two years for engaging in or using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour or words on 3rd November at Bridge Street, Cootehill.

  An offence of being intoxicated in a public place on the same occasion was taken into consideration.  The court heard evidence from Garda Roddy that the defendant had jumped out in front of the garda patrol car and put his rear-end in the direction of another garda.  Judge MacBride was informed that he had not exposed his rear-end, and Garda Roddy informed the court that the defendant had apologised that morning and was very remorseful. Mr Barry pleaded guilty to the offences.
