Clones Golf Club Stephen Trant 3 T"s Winner The men"s 3T"s competition contested on the weekend of 5th & 6th July was played in very inclement conditions. The winner with 40 points was Stephen Trant and the reserve with 38 points was Kevin Hickey. The winner will travel to The Slieve Russell with the winner of the ladies competition, Maureen Lynch along with Lady Captain Mrs. Noreen McKenna for the regional competition. Have a great day at The Slieve! Holmpatrick Cup The winners of the Holmpatrick Cup V Par competition run the weekend before last, were George Crowe and Seamus Brady 9 up. Congratulations gentlemen. Ulster 4-Ball Team Gene McEnroe"s Ulster 4-Ball team are still going strong winning 3 - 2 in Cavan last weekend. The return match to be held in Clones will take place on Saturday and we wish Clones the best of luck. They must be worried as Cavan have already booked two practice rounds! Jimmy Magee Memorial Trophy The Jimmy Magee Memorial Matchplay Trophy for our juvenile golfers will be contested shortly and all our young golfers are requested to put their names on the list in the locker room if they wish to take part. Juvenile golf coaching continues throughout the summer each Tuesday evening from 7pm. Big Burner Beckons Gentlemen throughout the month of July you will be able to play in a 14-hole stableford competition repeater to try and win the fabulous prize of a Big Burner Driver. Classic Weekend Clones Golf Club will host their own Annual Classic on Friday 1st August to Sunday 3rd August and already there are teams on the timesheet which is up in the Clubhouse. Mary off to Massareene The winner of the Ladies Ulster Sports Trust stableford competition last Thursday with a modest 31 points was Mary Trant, who"s score of 13 points on the front 9 galvanized her into starting par, birdie on the back 9. Mary is delighted to win and is looking forward to travelling to the Regional Finals in Massareene on 19th August along with Lady Captain Mrs. Noreen McKenna. Have a lovely day ladies! Barry McGuigan Matchplay Just a reminder ladies that the draw has been made for the Barry McGuigan Matchplay Trophy and the first round should be completed before 21st July. There have already been some great scalps claimed and congratulations go to Eileen Maguire for getting past the first round in her very first year of golf well done and keep it going! The draw for the mixed matchplay has now taken place draw sheet up in the clubhouse and the first round matches need to be played before the 27th July. It was very difficult to score, however the winners by a long way were Mary McCabe and Teresa Butler with a great score of 40 points. Second were Molly Mulvaney and Margaret Bourke with 36 points. Mary and Teresa have qualified to represent Mannan Castle in Dunsany Golf Club, Co Wicklow.Well done ladies. The Mannan ladies are doing well all over these days in open competitions; Breda Jones and Margaret Nugent came second in Ardee Golf Club recently and last week in Dundalk, Eilish Crawley, Teresa Butler, Mary McNamee and Kathleen Fox came second in an open sponsored by The Hairshop, Dundalk. Great golf ladies, great to see Mannan players so successful in other courses. Good news for our Ladies Foursomes, they are two matches up against Sutton, the return match to be played soon in Mannan. Now to some corrections; in last week"s report I mistakenly omitted that Rosemary Barry was the winner of the past captain"s prize section in the Lady Captain"s competition. Also I left out Anne Connolly in the list of team members of the AA Intermediate Challange Cup. Apologies to all concerned. Friday evening"s mixed scramble went very well, and the next mixed competition will be on Monday 4th August, the Bank Holiday weekend.
