Part-time courses at Cavan Institute
AN extensive range of part-time courses have been unveiled as part of Cavan Institute"s programme of night time courses. Launching its prospectus for 2008/2009 Margaret Tiernan, director of Adult Education at the institute announced that an information and enrolment evening for all courses will take place on Wednesday, 10 September from 6.30-9pm. 'The 2008/2009 range of part-time evening courses is Cavan Institute"s response to ensuring the needs of the wider community are met by providing quality courses at times suitable to learners in their own community,' said Ms Tiernan. 'Education is a fundamental cornerstone for growth in Cavan and the availability of these courses will continue to ensure the successful development and growth of the region. 'Part-time study is an increasingly popular option for those wishing to obtain certified skills that are nationally and internationally recognized. 'The underlying theme of the courses on offer in the 2008/2009 programme is the provision of opportunities to everyone who wishes to pursue personal and career development goals. As a provider of quality assured courses, Cavan Institute caters for all interests including those who are seeking higher education opportunities close to home as well as for those currently in employment who are now looking to enhance their career by up-grading their qualifications.' Courses on offer range from the degree programmes in Business and Public Management to ITEC Diploma courses. Of particular interest to those working in the Adult Education sector is the University of Ulster Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma in Further and Higher Education. The range of courses on offer are matched by the facilities available to learners at Cavan Institute which include high-tec Computer Labs, Purpose built Beauty and Therapy Training facilities and a state of the art Art and Crafts Suite. Courses on offer range from Degree programmes in Business Management and Public Management to ITEC Level 3 Diploma courses to National Certificate programmes provided by FETAC (Further Education and Training Awards Council), and NISO (National Irish Safety Organisation (NISO) in a variety of disciplines. The broad range of courses on offer at night include a number of new and innovative courses including Sign Language for Beginners. In the area of language the programme includes four different Irish courses catering from beginners level right through to NUI Galway Diploma in Irish. Increasing demand for computer skills is met with courses in Computer Aided Design, Web Design and Digital Movie Processing. There are also a number of short courses which are six to 10 weeks in duration that extend across a wide range of disciplines, such as Renewable Energy Systems, Adobe Photoshop, Personal Computer Maintenance, Creative Sewing, Digital Photography, Introduction to Computers, Web Design, Printmaking, Hairdressing (Up-Styling), Successful Job Seeking Skills. Beauty Care and Hairdressing courses on offer range from hobby courses to professional ITEC qualifications in Stone Therapy Massage. The programme is complimented with a range of hobby style courses including Creative Sewing, Pottery, Cookery, Oil Painting and Massage. In partnership with Cavan Institute NUI Maynooth will run a number of its certificates in Cavan including Certificates in Counselling Skills, Psychology, Community Development and Leadership, Adult and Community Education, Evening courses take place typically one evening per week and are usually two to three hours in duration each evening. Most courses commence in October and run until the following spring/ summer. Other courses commence in February and run until the spring/ summer.
