Kingscourt Stars Seniors Last weekend saw the end of our championship run, when Ramor Utd defeated us by 1-19 to 2-10. The qualifier run obviously served Ramor well, as they flew out of the traps and were 0-11 to 0-2 up after just 15 minutes, and while we managed to slowly narrow the gap, in truth, Ramor were always in control. A disappointing end to the campaign and we wish Ramor the best of luck in the remainder of the championship. A full report will appear on the website later on in the week. With the remaining league games not being played until after the county final, there will be a six week break until we meet Ballymachugh and Redhills, with one victory needed to ensure Division 2 status. Focus now turns to the Juniors, who begin their long-awaited championship campaign on 13 September at home to Gowna at 5pm. After a dodgy start to the league, the Junior"s finished in a rich vein of form, and will be hopeful of gaining an extended run in this year"s Junior B Championship. Minors - Fresh from topping the Division 1 league, the minors will need to continue that good form as they were drawn away to St Joseph"s in the quarter-final of the championship. Back in February, Kingscourt secured a narrow one point victory in the league, and it"s likely that this encounter will be just as tight. However, whoever comes through will be very confident of going all the way. This game will be played in Arva on Saturday 20 September. U16"s - The U16"s play in the quarter-final of the championship this week (Tuesday) when they face Redbridge up in Redhills. A tough game is guaranteed but hopefully they can build on their good league run from earlier in the season. U14"s - What a week for the U14"s! On Tuesday night, they hosted Ramor Utd in the championship quarter-final and on a horrible evening they gained a superb 3-5 to 1-6 victory against a fancied Virginia side. With no time a rest on their achievement, they hosted old-rivals, Cavan Gaels on Saturday for a high-noon shootout. Having lost out in the league semi-final in a high-scoring classic earlier in the season, our lads were clearly up for this. From the start they tore into it, and 30 minutes later, led 1-9 to 0-0. The inevitable Gaels comeback arrived in the second half but while the gap was narrowed, the young Stars were always in control, and but for the crossbar, would have put the game beyond doubt before the end. At full-time, they had recorded a famous 2-11 to 1-8 victory that was enjoyed by players, management and parents alike. A huge congratulations to all involved and hopefully the job can be finished of on Tuesday week (16th) when they face the winners of Shercock/Castlerahan in the championship final under lights in Breffni. U10"s - The annual U10 blitz will be held in the park this Sunday (14th) at 1pm. With eight sides from Cavan and neighbouring counties involved, there will be a feast of football and no shortage of excitement and enthusiasm. Well worth dropping down, if even just for a short while. Our second classic match feature is proving very popular on the website, the 1985 Roinn B U12 Final victory over Drumalee bringing back many highlights for those involved and even those that weren"t. Just log onto the website to view the highlights, and those from the 1990 senior county final against Mullahoran. Your suggestions for September"s clip can be sent to kingscourt.stars@hotmail.com The club lotto continues with no winner at the weekend. The winning numbers were 10, 12, 15 & 26, with Bonus 7. However, congratulations to Padraig McHale who was one of the match 3 winners, but also the first online winner of 2008 and he wins €100. Now that the online jinx has been broken, and with the jackpot at €12,400 (€17,400 including bonus), there is no reason not to play online! Next week"s draw takes place in Clarke"s. Killeshandra G.F.C Ladies Football The Arva/Killeshandra Ladies recorded a great win over Laragh at the weekend with a final scoreline of 6-18 to 2-3. The girls put a in a great performance in the early stages of the first half with M.King opening the scoring, taking the first goal in great style quickly followed by two goals in succession from full-forward E Connolly. Laragh got three points in the latter stages of the half but Arvas forwards had worked hard and were dominating proceedings at this stage. The early stages of the second half were dominated by Arva and the winner was obvious from this time. Arva were stronger all over the field with a tight defence who were not giving Laragh a chance to get on the ball. D English and N Daly won and cleared any loose ball that dropped around the 45 and the forwards were winning ball and picking of points from all angles. Laragh got two consolation goals in the second half but the result was never in doubt at this stage. Substitute Orla Brady topped Laragh"s misery in the dying minute to give Arva their sixth goal. This was the third year Arva made it to the final and loosing was not an option for the girls, with the extra strength and player selection available from having five girls from Killeshandra this is a very strong team who could do well in Ulster this year. The girls now have a chance of lifting the double if they can overcome St Finbars in the league final in two weeks and start their preparations for Ulster Championship. Congratulations to the Lurgan Ladies senior team on their victory over West Cavan Gaels in the Senior Championship on Saturday evening last. It was a wonderful achievement for these young ladies. There were jubilant scenes as captain Michelle Cole accepted the Michelle Keating Memorial Cup on behalf of her team. A homecoming reception was organised by the Lurgan Ladies committee along with Ramor United committee members. Well done to everyone involved. All at Ramor Utd would like to extend our best wishes and congratulations (in advance!) to Sean Lynch and Joanne Brady who will be married on Friday 12 September at Lake Como in Italy. There will be lots of support for the happy couple on the day, from Ramor and Maghera. Wishing them both a very long happy, healthy life together. Ramor have booked their place in the semi-final of the Senior Championship after an emphatic win over Kingscourt on Saturday evening last in Breffni Park on a scoreline of  1-19 to 2-10. While Ramor will be happy to advance to the next stage, they will be going in as underdogs to their opponents Cavan Gaels, who have dominated the Cavan senior scene over the last few years. Ramor were first on the scoreboard with five successive points without reply in the first nine minutes of play, these coming from Paddy Brennan(two), Paul Quealy, and Paddy McNamee(two). Kingscourt"s Ryan McCormack opened their account with a point from play in the 13th minute. Ramor were on target again with point from play each from Ado Cole and Ronan Keating. Ryan McCormack got another point, but this was answered by three Ramor points from Ado Cole, Paddy Brennan and Paddy McNamee. Kingscourt replied with a goal and a point, but Paddy McNamee cancelled this out with a point from play and a superb goal. Ryan McCormack converted a free and Paddy Brennan pointed from play to leave a half time score of 1-13 to 1-4. Paddy McNamee opened the scoring with a point in the first minute of the second half. Kingscourt replied with a McCormack free. Paddy Brennan added a point in the fourth minute to put his side seven points clear. Kingscourt had an opportunity to ease the gap with a penalty, but Ramor"s Aodghan Cahill pulled off a great save. Ryan Mc Cormack scored two points, one a free, before Anton O"Reilly and Stephen Monaghan(free) added their names to the scorers. Gavin Sheenan converted a 45 and Philip Smith pointed from play in the 24th minute. Paddy McNamee was on target with a great point from a tight angle adding to Kingscourt"s woes. A goal chance for Kingscourt was once again thwarted by Aodghan Cahill, but finally in the 27th minute Philip Smith got a goal for his side. The final scores of the game were from Ryan Mc Cormack (free) and Paddy Mc Namee. Full time score; Ramor 1-19, Kingscourt 2-10. Overall, this was a good first half display from Ramor, and notable also was the fact that 1-18 was scored from play. However, facing title favourites Cavan Gaels in the semi-final means there"s a lot of work to be done!
