Passing of Mr. Paddy Conaty Senior

The death occurred peacefully at Esker Lodge Nursing Home on Tuesday morning of Mr. Paddy Conaty senior, one of Cavan"s leading public representatives for a period of more than 40 years and a key figure in the life of the Fianna Fáil party in the county over that time. Father of Cavan Town Councillor, Mr. Paddy Conaty Junior, the late Paddy Conaty senior, in his 92nd year, was a formidable figure in world of local politics in Co. Cavan and was highly respected amongst the higher echelons of Fianna Fáil at national level. Imbued with a steely determination, he was an assiduous public representative who fought the cause of the ordinary citizen at both town and county level. He was a member of Cavan County Council for over 40 years and was chairman during the 1980s. He was also a member of Cavan Urban Council for over four decades and was a long-serving chairman of the former Cavan County Committee of Agriculture. He was a member of the former North Eastern Health Board for a period of 15 years from its inception in the early 1970s. The late Mr. Conaty was an active figure in the life of County Cavan GAA from his playing days with Cavan Harps and Crubany. He wore the county jersey as a County Minor and was honorary president of Cavan Gaels GFC. Predeceased by his wife, Kathleen, he is survived by six sons. His removal will take place on Thursday, October 16, from Finnegan's Funeral Home at 5.30pm, arriving at the Cavan Cathedral at 6pm for funeral the following day.
