More drama at Maudabawn!

Imagine a volume of books written under the title 28 years - all the ups and downs, sidewipes, near hits and connections. Somewhere in the cultural section would appear an article on the Maudabawn One Act Annual Drama Festival. Lavish praise would be given to Fr. Corrigan, Jimmy Carroll and John Reilly at the time of the festival"s inception. Lists would appear of groups from all over Ireland who participated over the years. The plays they performed and the authors would be mentioned in various categories. Like every other drama festival in the country the box office is unlikely to be sold out, but that means nothing. For those patrons who attend annually it is an enjoyable experience and we hope this festival will be the same. Taking part this year are groups from Stradone with Billy the Member, the Phoenix Players from Sligo with Plaza Suite, City Limits, Dublin with Reese And Babe, Crooked Wheel Productions, Leitrim with The Case Of The Prince Formerly Known as Hamlet, Carnaross with Fireworks and Causeway Productions, Dublin with Address Unknown. It will be a feast of comedy over a weekend. The adjudicator is Larry McCluskey, one of the country"s most experienced amateur drama practitioners, having directed, acted in and adjudicated plays for more than 40 years. He is a long-standing member of the Association of Drama Adjudicators, winner of best actor and best director awards at regional and all-Ireland drama festivals and is artistic director of the Drumlin Players, the well known Monaghan-Cavan group that has presented plays to great acclaim at home and abroad over the 30 years. Their most recent are King Of The Castle Kevin"s Bed and the Faith healer at the Garage Theatre and Ramor Theatre, and their Beckett show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where their production was awarded four stars by the British Theatre Guide. Recently retired from a long and distinguished career in education, including primary and secondary in Monaghan, and as CEO of Co. Monaghan VEC, Larry is judge for the third time at Maudabawn. Groups and audiences will surely enjoy and benefit from larry"s insightful commentary on the six performances.
