Fermanagh man fatally injured in road accident

A Fermanagh man became the eleventh person to be killed on the Cavan/Monaghan roads so far this year when he was fatally injured in a collision involving a lorry and a van on Tuesday morning. Michael Manley (59) from Roslea, was the driver and sole occupant of a van, which was travelling from Monaghan towards Clones when it collided with the lorry travelling in the opposite direction around 11.45am at Stonebridge, Clones. The driver and passenger in the lorry were removed to Cavan General Hospital. To date eleven people have been killed on roads in Cavan and Monaghan this year. The first occurred on March 23 when a motorcyclist was killed in Monaghan. A young man lost his life in a road accident in Kilcogy on May 4, while a female motorist died as a result on an accident on the Cavan by-pass at Deggan, Butlersbridge, on June 16. Another young man lost his life in an accident in Ballyconnell on June 18, while two people were killed following a collision between a lorry and two van at Broomfield, Carrickmacross, on July 10. A pedestrian was fatally injured at Granard Street, Ballyjamesduff, when he was knocked down on August 27. A foreign national lost her life when her car left the road outside Crossdoney on September 15 and ended up in a river. Another female lost her life in a hit and run incident outside Virginia on September 27. A man from Northern Ireland was fatally injured outside Kingscourt, on the Carrickmacross Road, on October 25.
