Ramor Utd Championship Glory for Ramor! Ramor United have had a fantastic year in 2008, having won numerous titles at Underage level since donning the Black and Amber and of course, capturing the Senior League Title. But surely, the icing on the cake for Ramor was the emphatic victory over favourites Cavan Gaels in the U-21 Championship on Friday night last. The last U-21 Title was won in 1980, when Ramor defeated Kingscourt, so it was a joyous occasion for all involved. The men in black and amber left the result in no doubt as they steam rolled their way to the title in clinical style. Joint captains Stephen Monaghan and Donal Farrelly proudly lifted the Hotel Kilmore Division 1 Cup in front of a large crowd in a freezing cold O"Raghallaigh Park, Kingscourt. This side, consisting of mostly Ramor United players and two from Munterconnaught, did themselves proud, and have the added honour of being the only side to beat Cavan Gaels in a championship Final at senior level this year. The final score was a definitive 1-12 to 1-6, after a mostly one-sided game with an awesome display of determination, skill and raw talent from the champions. Ado Cole got his side off to a dream start with a point from play within the first minute. Shane Reilly added another in the 4th minute, before the Gaels replied with one from Niall Murray. A Donal Farrelly goal after great work from Colm Murphy put Ramor firmly in control. Shane Reilly pointed in the 11th minute edging Ramor further ahead. A brilliant save by Matthew Mc AWeeney compounded the Gaels misery as they recorded a number of wides, due mainly to the tight marking of Stefan Connolly and Raymond Farrelly. Ramor were in total control, particularly at midfield and the half-back and half-forward lines. Stephen Monaghan and Levi Murphy exchanged frees to leave a half time score of 1-5 to 0-2. Ramor got the second half off to another dream start with points from Stephen Monaghan(free) and Ado Cole. Cavan Gaels started the half with three substitutions and a number of positional changes. They got their first score of the half in the 10th minute in the form of a Niall Murray free. Niall Smith kicked in a high speculative ball which found it"s way to the top corner of the net. However, Ramor upped the ante and took control again and a Stephen Monaghan free took the sting out of the goal. Points from Declan Meehan and Niall Smith brought the deficit down to three. Stephen Sheridan converted a free from the right, along the side line and a foul on Paul Quealy enabled Stephen Monaghan to convert one from the left. Ramor were in cruise control, allowing little leeway for a Gaels attack, and closed out the game after a Declan Meehan point in the 26th minute. Ado Cole finished off some superb work from the back line through midfield with a well taken point, and from the kick out Colm Murphy slotted over the bar for Ramor"s last score of the game.
