Galway"s legendary trad" singer for the Ramor
Catch legendary Galway traditional singer, writer and musician Sean Keane at the Ramor Theatre Virginia on Thursday, February 12, at 8.30pm. In March 2008, Sean gathered together Ireland"s finest musicians and dancers in the Black Box Theatre in Galway for a live recording of his new work. The Irish Scattering was released as a 28 track DVD and a 15 track CD in September 2008. In The Irish Scattering, Sean celebrates with great humour, entertainment and optimism, the stories and songs of Irish people over the generations, who for one reason or another have left Ireland and "scattered" to every country in the western world and beyond: the builders, the writers, the singers, the politicians, the navvies, the housekeepers, the musicians, the nurses, the teachers, the thinkers. The Irish Scattering is his way of honouring those Irish men and women who forged lives far away from home. The show is a mix of up-tempo songs, old and new and many traditional songs such as Far Away in Australia. The Cunningham Dancers from Connemara who showcase the traditional loose style sean-nos dancing are a show-stopper, as is the 'dyddling and clicking' which has to be seen to be appreciated. The Irish Scattering enjoyed great success on its inaugural tour in October, with spontaneous standing ovations at every venue. For that reason, it takes to the road again during February and March 2009. Booking at the Ramor Theatre on 049 8547074.
