Ballymachugh produced a good first half display. An early goal from Gerard Reilly allied to points from Sean Galligan, Brian Muldoon, Josh Goldrick & Gary Kelly gave the home side a great platform but unfortunately they failed to build on this and missed a plethora of goal chances and their solitary score of the second half came from a Brian Muldoon point. Roinn E Killeshandra v Arva Killeshandra picked up their second set of league points of the year with a win over neighbours Arva in a re-fixed game on Wedensday evening last. The Leaguers playing against the wind in the first half started the game in determined fashion and had the better of the early exchanges with early points from Darren Mc Grath and a Conor Mc Gearty '45' after Oisin Sheridan in the Arva goals pulled off an excellent save. After 7 mins Mc Gearty made no mistake when he scored the Leaguers first Goal. At this stage Arva sprung in to life and started to exert some pressure of their own Shane Hamilton was tripped 30 meters from goal however the resulting free from Bernard Brady was knocked out for a 45 which also went narrowly wide. Arvas first score was coming and when Ben Cooney finally broke through he finished well to the back of the net. After some scrappy play by both sides Danny Ellis won a free for Arva which was converted by Ryan Magaraghan to leave a point between the sides with 10 mins of the half to play. Good work by Dean Farrelly helped the leaguers to finally clear their lines however the attack resulted in a wide. From the resulting kick out which fell short to Eddie Masterson who carried and finished soccer style to the Arva goal, 3 mins later Darren Reilly won a kick out and fed to Dean Farrelly who passed on to Mc Gearty who delivered to John Gilsenan who finished to the back of the Arva net in one of the best pieces of play in the game. However again Arva hit back Shane Hamilton had his goal ward bound shot saved by Rooney but collected the rebound and kicked his first point, Hamilton however bet the goal keeper a minute later to score his sides second goal and followed up this with his sides third point. Late points by Conor Mc Gearty and Anthony Sweeney for Killeshandra left the half time score Killeshandra 3-5 Arva 2-3. In the second half what had been a fair breeze picked up to strong wind to give Killeshandra a big advantage in the second half. Arva however had the first shot on goal with Ryan Magaraghan shooting narrowly wide. This woke the Killeshandra lads up and with the wind at their backs Joe O"Hanlon(2) Conor Mc Gearty (3) and John Gilsenan (2) registering scores the Leaguers started to pull away from their opponents. Arva again to their credit hit back with a well taken Bernard Brady goal. However Killeshandras greater all round strength took over at this stage and in the last 10 minutes goals from John Gilsenan(2) and Darren Mc Grath killed off the game. In what was an entertaining and well refereed game Killeshandras greater strength won out against a spirited performance from a young Arva team. For the Leaguers Daniel Rooney in goals made some fine saves and had some excellent kick outs especially against the wind Darren and Conor O"Reilly were solid at the back with the centre diamond ofDean Farrelly Conor Mc Gearty and Darren Mc Grath very strong. Up front all forwards registered scores with Eddie Masterson very lively. For a young home side Oisin Sheridan had an excellent game in goals pulling off at least five point blank saves Danny Connelly and Cormac mc Cabe worked tirelessly especially against a strong second half wind. Ryan Magaraghan and Paul Bouchier played well in midfield. Up front Ben Cooney was very lively Bernard Brady was always involved and chipped in with a goal while Shane Hamilton and Danny Ellis caused the leaguers defence lots of trouble. With Hamilton coming out of the game with a personal tally of 1-2. Arva hosted our near neighbours on Wednesday night in a postponed game.
