Starting off with Sunday Mass in St Brigids Killygarry the large congregation enjoyed a beautiful liturgy from Fr Andrew Tully and his reflection and touching remembrance of all our deceased members and local people associated with the club. All members of the congregation were thankful to Fr Andrew for his sermon and the sense of belonging he brought to the occasion. After moving to the club grounds, the sun shone and everyone responded by arriving in large numbers. Our tree planting ceremony, locking of the time capsule and the unveiling of the new plaque commemorating all our Club Chairmen were fitting tributes to this special day for the GAA. Many thanks to Annie Cahill for pulling the cord and it was fitting to see her flanked by her grandsons, current senior players, Padraig Cahill and Michael, Andrew and Stephen McGovern. With these activities surrounded by lots of games for our Under 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, Minor and Senior players, boys & girls, men & women everyone enjoyed the spectacle and a large thank you goes out to all the coaches who manned the stations and to all our past players who turned out for the Over 35"s game. The ice packs were out in force on Monday morning!!! Thanks also to Majella and the Ladies club for their sterling work throughout the day. Others that added to the day were Mark & Sinead Lynch and their kind gesture of having refreshments for all the young players as they left the pitch and Harry Lynch from Harry"s Electrical who provided the PA system so everyone could hear what was going on. Many thanks to one and all. The evening festivities went on long into the night and the highlight for all was the presentation to Mr. Bartley Gilsenan for his Lifetime of Service to Killygarry GAC. The tributes paid to Bartley by Club Chairman Kevin Reilly, Past Chairman of Cavan County Board Peter Brady and the reply from Micheal Gilsenan were glowing and fitting to such an outstanding club man. The club history exhibition was appreciated and enjoyed by all who took time to browse through it both at the club grounds and during the evening gathering. Great credit to Seamus McGovern, PJ Galligan, Sean Brady, Mattie Brady, Simon Fay, Seamus Lynch and Majella Tierney and the ladies who spent long days and nights gathering the information and also to Toni Galligan for her generous contributions too. As night fell the Irish music played long into the night and the large crowd regaled each other with stories of days past and enjoyed the photo slideshow of times past & present. The future of Killygarry GAC looks bright and the strong support from the local community and club members has everyone looking forward to our next gathering.
