Bench warrant issued A bench warrant was issued at Ballyconnell District Court for Mindaugas Cesnakas, 10 Bothar Bui, Ballyconnell, when he failed to appear at the local District Court charge with having no insurance on his vehicle at Cullyleenan, Ballyconnell, on October 18. Community service Patrick McCaffrey, Tullyveela, Corlough, Belturbet, was ordered to do 120 hours of community service in lieu of two months when he appeared at Ballyconnell District Court on a public order offence. He was charged that on June 23 at Derryginny, Ballyconnell, he used or engaged in threatening, abusive or insulting words of behaviour with intent to provoke a breach of the peace. Crossed the white line Michelle Fennell, 19 Rye River walk, The Square, Kilcock, Kildare, was ordered to donated €250 to the Special Olympics Ireland when she appeared at Ballyconnell District Court summoned with crossing a continuous white line at Corporation Lands, Belturbet, on June 28. New solicitor introduced Prior to the commencement of Ballyconnell District Court, a new solicitor was introduced, Mr. Denis McDwyer said it gave him great pleasure to welcome Mr. Ronan O"Brien to court. He served his apprenticeship with Harry Hunt and qualified this year from NUI Galway. 'His claim to fame is that he was educated in St. Pat"s College, Cavan, although he is from Monaghan.' Judge Sean MacBride: 'We will not hold that against him and forgive him.' Continuing, Mr. McDwyer said Mr. O"Brien was a keen football and was a member of the Latton GFC in Monaghan and played senior football with them. 'It is my pleasure to introduce him to court and wish him well for the future.' Superintendent Brian Brunton on behalf of the Gardaí also welcomed Mr. O"Brien and looked forward to have interaction with him. 'If we have assistant him in any way we will.' Judge MacBride said Mr. O"Brien was most welcome to his court and 'I wish you a long and happy career.' He served his apprenticeship with an experienced firm of Harry Hunt and Larry Burke. 'I"m sure you got a good grounding.' Mr. O"Brien was joining one of the nicest bunch of colleagues in the country. Rory Hayden SS on behalf of the Cavan Bar Association welcomed Mr. O"Brien as well. 'I knew his father when I was in St. Pat"s as his father taught there while I attended.' The Cavan Bar Association was a very friendly one and he was sure Mr. O"Brien would fit in. Lorraine McEntee on behalf of the District Court office also welcomed Mr. O"Brien and assured him of their help and co-operation whenever it was needed. Replying, Mr. O"Brien thanked everyone for their kind words and said he looked to working with everyone. Could paint courthouse railings Gary Hill, (23), Blackbull, Crosskeys, was directed to undertake 150 hours community service in lieu of three months imprisonment by Judge Sean MacBride at Cavan District Court for being in breach of the Public Order Act at Cavan Garda station on December 20, 2008. Inspector Pat McMorrow, prosecuting, stated that the defendant called to the Garda station to enquire about his friend, who was in custody. He was very intoxicated and because of his behaviour, the gardaí requested him to leave the station. He refused and they had no option but to arrest him. In directing the defendant to undertake community service, Judge MacBride suggested that Mr. Hill could be usefully employed in painting the railings at the front of the Courthouse.
