Prepare to be spellbound by Cavan Players and Cahoots
Fancy some family daytime entertainment? They packed the Town Hall Theatre last year, and Cavan Players are collaborating with Cahoots NI again for a production of The Family Hoffman"s Mystery Palace, in the Town Hall Theatre, Cavan, for three performances a day on June 2 and 3. 'This really is children"s theatre at its best, so is not to be missed,' said Linda O"Reilly of Cavan Players. 'Children"s theatre is a wonderful thing, and to offer the access to professional theatre productions on your own doorstep is something that the Cavan Players aim to do.' The cast includes musical director, Ursula Burns, who has released three albums and toured the UK and Europe performing her music; Hugh Brown, who has worked in many forms of theatre for 15 years; and Caolan McBride, a master of illusion, who won the International Brotherhood of Magician stage competition in 2007. The Family Hoffman"s Mystery Palace tells the story of the female magician, dancer and vaudeville performer Adelaide Scarzez, who married the magician Alexander Herrmann or, as he was called, Herrman the Great. Known as the Queen of Magic, she settled in Coney Island amusement park in New York where she set up the Mystery Palace from which she governed the Topsy-Turvey Kingdom. Cavan Players was established in 2007 by Jimmy Fox and has produced Christmas Eve Can Kill You, by Marie Jones, as well as The Snail and the Whale. Following this production of The Family Hoffman"s Mystery Palace, Cavan Players will bring Cavan audiences The Nativity... What the Donkey Saw, by Grimes and McKee, in December. This play, by established comic writers Conor Grimes and Alan McKee, has had wonderfully successful runs in the Lyric theatre, Belfast and the Mill theatre, Dundrum to rave reviews. According to Jane Coyle, The Stage: 'Conor Grimes and Alan McKee are two of the cleverest comic writers in Ireland', while The Sunday Business Post said the production 'ticks all the boxes and provides a loose commentary on contemporary times'. The Family Hoffman"s Mystery Palace, at the Town Hall Theatre, Cavan on June 2 at 9.30am, 11am (limited availability) and 12.45pm and on June 3 at 9.30am, 11am and 12.30pm (limited availability).
