Didn"t mean to break pub window A man who thumped on the window of a premises months after he had been refused admission, thus breaking the window in the incident, appeared before Judge MacBride at Cootehill District Court. Mark Thornton, Lisnaveane, Swans Cross, Monaghan, was charged with criminal damage to the front glass window of the Bellamont Arms, Market Street, Cootehill, on November 11, 2007. The defendant pleaded guilty stating that although he thumped the window he didn"t intend to break it. Judge MacBride clarified that full compensation had been paid and hearing from the Garda that the defendant was unlikely to re-offend, marked the facts proved and dismissed the charge under the Probation of the Offenders Act. Excess alcohol Peter Fagan (24), 64 Farnham Street, Cavan, was fined €150 and disqualified from driving for two years and three months by Judge Sean MacBride at Cavan District Court for driving with excess alcohol (50mg/100ml breath) at Kinnypottle, Cavan, on October 10, 2008. Mr. G. Nevin, solicitor defending, said his client was unemployed and recently finished a course in Cavan. Insurance fine At Cavan District Court Brian McEvoy, Dublin Road, Ballinagh was fined €250 for driving without insurance at Dublin Road, Ballinagh on July 22, 2008. Suspended sentence At the same court, Jason Turner, 17, Railway Road, Belturbet, was given a suspended six-months sentence for driving without insurance at Drumhurk, Cavan, on November 3, 2008. The sentence was suspended on stipulation that the defendant entered a bond to keep the peace and be of good behaviour for two years. Insurance fines Alan Carroll, Corlurgan, Bailieboro, was fined €500 at Cavan District Court for driving without insurance at Corlurgan, Cavan. He was also disqualified from driving for one year. At the same court Leana Smita, 12, Court Crescent, Ballyjamesduff, was fined €250 for driving without insurance at Lavey, Stradone, on November 3rd, 2008. Donation to Cavan Drug Awareness Shane Brady, Drumullen, Farnham, Cavan, was ordered by Judge Sean MacBride at Cavan District Court to pay €300 to Cavan Drug Awareness in respect of a charge of possessing cannabis at Farnham Street, Cavan, on September 10, 2008. The case was adjourned to June 18th to allow the defendant pay the donation as stipulated. Judge MacBride said that if the money was paid he would dismiss the case under the POA. Drink driving Also at Cavan District Court Maureen Maguire, 8a The Drumlins, Cavan, was fined €300 for driving with excess alcohol, reading 274mg/100ml urine. She was also disqualified from driving for three years, effective from September 1, 2009. Failure to comply Ronan Bartley, Annagh, Belturbet, was fined €400 by Judge MacBride at Cavan District Court for failing to comply with a Garda direction given at Cavan Garda Station to leave the area in a peaceful and orderly manner on May 4, 2009.
