Success for Cavan kids

The weekend of 22nd 25th June saw the first of a very successful weekend for Cavan competitors who represented the county on the first of three weekends on the National calendar. A new venue at Athlone AIT brought new challenges and experiences to the young people from 11 areas that went forward to represent the county at National Level Over 3000 children travelled to Athlone to compete over the two days, and the excitement on the faces of all of them was something to be witnessed. They were supported all the way by their parents, coaches and friends. Competitions were held in over 25 different events, such as Art, Model Making, Cross Country, Badminton, Indoor Soccer to name but a few. Cavan were represented by 79 young people ranging in different age groups from U10 to U16 Table Tennis from Ballyjamesduff and St Patrick"s area was particularly successful in all age groups of the competition with the following receiving medals:- Boys U13 , Ballyjamesduff, Gold Girls U13, St Patrick"s, 4th Boys U16 , Ballyjamesduff, Silver Girls U16 , St Patrick"s , Silver The cultural events which have become hugely popular at both area and county level were also very successful and fought off stiff competition and took home Group Modern Dance U14 Brackley, Gold. Traditional /Contemporary Dance, Erne Valley, Bronze The U14 Quiz team from Kingscourt who have been successful many times both at county and national fought gallantly and narrowly missed out on Gold losing out to Kerry in the Final.
