Virginia gardaí launch new policing initiative
An Garda Siochana has recently launched a new community policing initiative country-wide, which has been introduced as a means of developing lasting and positive relationship with the community, as well as employing multi-disciplinary problem solving within the community. The garda sub district of Virginia has been divided up into sectors with a garda assigned as a community garda in each sector. In Virginia north, garda Adrian O'Hanlon has been assigned to this sector, which comprises mainly of the Killinkere area and is made up of the rural area to the north of the town. Garda Caroline Bradley has been appointed to Virginia south, which is mainly made up of the area south of Lough Ramor around Munterconnaught. Virginia town north is made up of the town area north of the New Street junction and includes New Street, Main Street, Cavan Road and the Ballyjamesduff Road as far as Lurgan. Garda Philip McGarry has responsibility for this sector. Virginia town south is made up of the town area south of the New Street junction, and includes the Bailieboro Road as far as Morgan's shop and the Dublin Road out as far as and including Maghera. The community garda assigned to this sector is Garda John Maher. Community based organisations and clubs, as well as individual members of the public in each sector, are welcome to make contact with the relevant community garda with a view to establishing an ongoing relationship, which will be of mutual benefit to both parties. Community gardaí will attend at resident association meetings, community alert meetings, sports club meetings etc., and will be available to deal with problems being encountered in each area. It is hoped that this initiative will prove beneficial to both the community at large and An Garda Siochana going forwards. Virginia is the first area in county Cavan in which the new community policing initiative is being implemented. It will be rolled out across the county in the near future.
