Murray named as chief support to Dunne

Cavan's EU Lightweight champion Andy Murray will be in action again late next month when he fights as chief support on the Bernard Dunne-Poonsawat Kratingden world title bout. Boxing so high on the card, Murray will gain massive TV exposure, with promoter Brian Peters keen to maximise the profile of the Cavan Town man. "I am going to be second to Bernard Dunne on the 02 bill on September 26," Murray confirmed. "I'm training away flat out and I will be for the next seven weeks until the fight. "They are trying to work on an opponent, I don't have to fight the mandatory against the Spanish fighter. Brian Peters is trying to work more on rankings so I will eligible for a full European title shot. I'd say it will be a learning fight, a tough 12 rounds." The full European champion is Frenchman Anthony Mezaache (16-5-3), who defeated veteran Jon Thaxton for the title, a strap which Murray would dearly love to win. "His [Mezaache's] record doesn't suggest that he's brilliant, he improved in his last fight but he's definitely beatable. "Hopefully after this fight and a couple more I'll try to hopefully get a shot at it. You don't know what's goiong to happen. "It's going to be a tough fight now in September and if I can get through this one I shouldn't be too far away from it [a shot at the full European Lightweight title]." At present Murray is training out of the Cavan gym at Railway Road in the town. "I am training here in Cavan at the moment, I will be going up and down to Breen's gym in Belfast for sparring with the likes of Paul McCloskey, Kevin O'Hara, Stephen Haughian. "I'm training hard, lifting weights and working in the gym and there will be no slacking off till it's over. I never was out of shape from the last fight anyway. "I took a few days off then went back into the gym and it's always a help - you don't want to be starting from a low base."
