Autumn evenings drawing in at the Abbey Bar, Cavan
It's the time of year for seeking out enjoyable indoor activities for these darker, cosier evenings. Pencil in the Abbey Bar on Tuesdays - in more ways than one. A new evening of drawing will take place from 7pm to 9pm every Tuesday at the Abbey (on Coleman Street in Cavan town), beginning on October 6. The organiser, Will Govan, studied portraiture at Heatherley's School of Fine Art and was inspired to set up a drop-in drawing session in London after visiting the Grande Chaumière drawing studio in Paris. "I was struck by the informal and accessible nature of the studio. You simply turned up, threw a few francs in a tin and set about drawing the model" says Ben. He sees no reason why we can't go a little Parisian in Cavan for this purpose. "The Abbey is a perfect venue. It'll be a lot of fun to draw for a couple of hours then have a drink afterwards. "The group will be drawing some of the local characters from in and around Cavan. Beginners are more than welcome and basic materials will be provided. Rhonda Tidy, from Cavan Arts Office, is supporting the project: "Above all, drawing is fun," exclaims Rhonda. "You don't actually have to be technically good at it or serious about it. This is a fantastic initiative for the beginner or the pro. There's always something to be learnt in group sessions no matter what level you work at. Just come along and try it." The drop-in session will cost €5. Contact Will Govan at 087-2657426 or williamgovan@hotmail.com.
