Remanded in custody Oskar Gricands, 25 Bothar Glas, Ballyconnell, was remanded in custody to appear at Virginia District Court when he appeared at a sitting of Ballyconnell District Court on charges of driving with excess alcohol and giving a false name and address. Conditions of his bail are that he resides at the above address, obeys a curfew between 11pm and 7am, signs on at Ballyconnell Garda Station every Wednesday and Saturday between 6pm and 9pm, abstains from alcohol and illegal drugs, does not frequent licensed premises, surrenders his passport and does not apply for any travel documents until the case concludes. Community Service Sharon Sweeney, 1 Gort Na Folla, Turlough, Castlebar, Mayo, was ordered to complete 80 hours of community service in lieu of one month in prison when she pleaded guilty at Ballyconnell District Court to stealing groceries from a supermarket. She was charged that on November 11 at Centra, Erne Hill, Belturbet, she stole an assortment of groceries to the value of €22.48, the property of Padraig Donohoe. Inspector Alan Cunningham said the defendant purchased a number of items in the supermarket and paid for them. However, she concealed some other items to the value of €22 in a shoulder bag and left without paying for them. Abusive behaviour John Curran, 4 Fairgreen, Belturbet, was fined €250 at Ballyconnell District Court for using or engaging in threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour at Holborn Hill, Belturbet, on March 11, 2009. Simon Morganroth, Flat 2, Gortalan, Ballyconnell, was ordered to donate €500 to the Ballyconnell Tidy Towns committee for a similar offence at Bothar Glas, Ballyconnell, on December 24. Probation Act Shireen McGovern, 5 Doonbeg, Ballyconnell, was given the benefit of the Probation Act when she pleaded guilty at Ballyconnell District Court to stealing items from a local chemist to the value of €133. She was charged that on May 18 at McManus Chemist, Main Street, she stole three bottles of perfume and one bottle of tanning cream to the value of €133 the property of John McManus. Inspector Alan Cunningham said on May 19, gardaí received a report of a theft from the chemist. They spoke to the manager who informed them that the defendant had left the shop with a number of items. When interviewed, the defendant made a full statement of admission. Hilary Fitzpatrick, solicitor defending, said his client had suffered a lot of hardship recently having suffered two family bereavements. She lost an uncle who died in England and then lost her new born baby as well. She had the €133 from the day she was interviewed by the gardaí. Judge Sean MacBride said the defendant had suffered enough in the last year and he was giving her the benefit of the Probation Act. Defective vehicle Sara Garcia, Upper Main Street, Manorhamilton, was fined €500 at Ballyconnell District Court for having a defective vehicle at Kilduff, Belturbet, on August 13.
