Patrick Lynch, Woodside, New York

The funeral of the late Patrick Lynch, Travel Agent in Woodside, New York took place on last Friday and the Requiem Mass was celebrated in St Luke's Church, Whitestone, New York. He was buried at St Mary's Cemetery, where there was a US Military salute and a Police Guard of Honour. The coffin was draped in the American flag and two US Soldiers folded the flag and handed it over to his wife Molly. Patrick who was a son of the late Winifred and Patrick Lynch, Lackenduff, Ballyjamesduff emigrated to New York in 1948. He opened his Woodside Travel Agency business in 1964 and it remained open until December, 2001 and he was a founding member of the Irish Travel Agent's Association. He was also a member of the Catholic War Veterans and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He served in the American Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. The late Mr. Lynch was a long serving volunteer in St. Sebastian's Church and a well respected member of the communities in Woodside and Bayside in New York. His brother-in-law P.J. Smith from Tierlahood, Stradone, travelled out for the funeral together with several other people from the Ballyjamesduff and Killinkere areas. He was a great GAA supporter and travelled home each year for most All Ireland finals. His wife Molly Lynch (nee Cooney) hails from Killinkere. He was predeceased by his sisters Kathleen and Dympna and brother Terry and is survived by his sister Mary in London. He was also a proud grandfather to Aisling, Conor, Sean, Cara, Cormac and Cillian. There is a special mass in his memory in the church in Ballyjamesduff on this Friday evening, April 16, at 7.30pm.
