From Glasto to the ShamRock festival, Cavan
Bono couldn't make it to the legendary Glastonbury Festival, but Co. Cavan rock band, Shouting At Planes, didn't disappoint. And the history-making band (the first ever Cavan band to take a stage at Glastonbury) are set to perform at the ShamRock Music Festival in Cavan Equestrian Centre this weekend. Shouting At Planes members, Aodhan McBreen, Liam McCabe, Garreth Tackney, Brian O'Reilly and Kevin Kelleher returned home on Monday after a thrilling performance on the Queen's Head Stage at Glastonbury last Saturday. "The atmosphere was electric. We were really blown away by the level of the support we received - without a doubt, the most incredible experience of our lives," said drummer Brian. The annual festival, in South West England took place between last Wednesay and Monday, celebrating its 40th year. "Seeing Stevie Wonder was spectacular as was the Edge's surprise appearance with Muse, performing Where The Streets Have No Name," said Brian, who also really enjoyed The Drums and Two Door Cinema Club. Shouting at Planes scooped their place in the line-up when they won the Shercock Battle Of The Bands competition earlier this year. Two from Knockbride and three from Bailieborough, the lads formed the band in late 2009 and have enjoyed incredible success since. You can catch Shouting At Planes on home soil this Sunday at 7.30pm as they play the Original Act Stage at ShamRock Festival. Ireland's biggest ever tribute music festival, the ShamRock Festival takes place this Friday, Saturday and Sunday (July 2-4) in the Cavan Equestrian Centre. With 70 acts on three stages over the three days, ShamRock "definitely can't be missed" says entrepreneurial Swellan native organiser, Brian Greenan. "The Comedy Stage features comedians PJ Gallagher, Jason Byrne, Jon Kenny and more than 10 others. The Tribute Stage has The Classic Beatles, Rattle & Hum, Oasish, The Fillers, Guns 2 Roses and loads more. The Original Acts Stage has 26 of the country's best up and coming acts. The standard is amazing across the board," says Brian. He promises the event will be "a weekend to remember for anyone who loves music, comedy, funfairs, and summer festivals". Even after the Glastonbury experience, Brian says they're really looking forward to ShamRock. "It's great to have something on that scale come to Cavan." • Gates open at 17.15 on Friday, and 12.15 on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets, from €29.50 (or €6.50 for children), can be bought at the gate.
