Late surge can't stop Drumalee
Drumalee 2-11 Bailieboro Shamrocks 0-13 Drumalee moved away from the bottom tier of the Cavan senior football league (Div 2) when they had a good win over Bailieboro Shamrocks at St Phelim's Park on Sunday. Drumalee got off to a flying start and had the ball in the net after four minutes from their county player Mickey Brennan following a Daragh Gaffney free. Trevor Molloy added a point before Bailieboro replied with their opening score from a Niall Kelly free. The same player was on the mark again minutes later. Drumalee responded with a point from Kevin Donohoe and the home side went further ahead when Mickey Brennan scored his second goal in the 12th minute. Brennan and Niall Kelly exchanged points and Paddy Bird shot a fine long-range point for the Shamrocks. Bailieboro were going well at this stage and Geoffrey Martin sent over another point and repeated the feat minutes later, both scores coming from the right wing. Goalkeeper James Heffernan was called into action and saved but Bailieboro kept up the offensive and Niall Kelly shot two points with Paddy Bird also on target. This left the scores level at half-time, Drumalee 2-3 Bailieboro 0-9. Much more was expected from Drumalee as the second-half got under way and Daragh Gaffney, Patrick Colton and John O'Connor shot a point apiece. Drumalee looked well on their way to a decisive win when Kevin Donohoe pointed. Patrick Colton and Daragh Gaffney piled on further scores before Niall Kelly pointed at the other end. In a late surge Bailieboro added points through Jeffrey Martin and Niall Kelly. The scoring came to an end with an exchange of points by Paddy Bird and Daragh Gaffney. Drumalee finished the game with 14 players when Mickey Brennan was sent off.
