Paden is arrested in Ballyhaise
A 56-year-old man who was wanted by police in Britain appeared before Cavan District Court last Thursday morning, where he was remanded in custody to appear at the same court this Thursday, July 8. William John Paden, of no fixed abode, was before Judge Patrick Clyne on a charge of being within the jurisdiction of the state and being a person to whom part 2 of the Sex Offenders Act, 2001 applied, failed to notify the gardaí of his home address, name and date of birth required by the provisions of Section 10 (1) of the said acts, contrary to section 12 (a3) of the Sex Offenders Act, 2001. Lancashire police have been looking for Paden since he absconded from an address in Blackpool a week ago, together with the PSNI in the North and the gardaí. He was arrested by gardaí on Wednesday at Drumcrow, Ballyhaise, which is in close proximity to the river Annalee, and taken into custody in Cavan town. As the defendant stood to face the charge, Garda Insp Ray McMahon, Cavan town, applied for him to be remanded in custody for a week to July 8. Defence solicitor Mr. Gareth Fortune indicated that there might be a bail application lodge on the next occasion. He understood that his client would be remanded to Castlerea Prison, but requested that he be transferred to Arbour Hill Prison in Dublin instead as soon as possible and be afforded appropriate medical treatment. Mr. Fortune asked for the recommendation for transfer to Arbour Hill as it would be a more appropriate prison for the defendant. Judge Clyne said all he could do is make the recommendation and it was now included on the warrant, together with a stipulation that he receive appropriate medical treatment.
