McNamee award for Cavan

THE winners of the 2009 McNamee GAA Awards were presented with their awards at a function in Croke Park on Saturday evening last. In the best county final programme category Cavan Co Board's Communications Committee received the award for the best county final programme in 2009. It was described as "an outstanding production that did fitting justice to the GAAs 125 year celebrations and also to the county final occasion. The citation went on to say; "The articles and photographs were of the highest quality and beautifully presented in a programme that was a treasure trove of memories as well as a great preview of the big day and a real memento for supporters. Credit is also due that for such a major publication it was also very reasonably priced". Recognising outstanding contributions The awards, which were presented by GAA President Christy Cooney, are named after the late Padraig McNamee, former President of the GAA, Chairman of the GAA Commission (1969-1971) and a member of the RTE Authority. They are presented annually in recognition of outstanding contributions made by individuals and Association units in the area of media and communications. The Communications Committee of Cavan Co Board in 2009 comprised Chairman, Owen McConnon; secretary, Annette Geoghegan; committee, Mark Gillick (PRO); George Cartwright (Cornafean); Oliver Galligan (Cavan Gaels), Declan Woods (Killeshandra); Philip Devine (Laragh Utd), Barney Cully (Arva) and Tommy McGibney (Cornafean). Representing the Co Board and Communications Committee at the function were; Chairman, Tom Reilly; Secretary Liam McCabe, former PRO Mark Gillick and Chairman of Communications Committee, Owen McConnon. Also with the Cavan delegation was former Anglo-Celt sports editor Eamonn Gaffney who contributed some 12 articles to the county final programme including major achievements by Cavan teams in the past and contributions for many of Cavan's outstanding players.
