His And Hers in Storm Cinema Cavan
You've probably heard of it and you may recognise some Co. Cavan women in it, and now is your chance to see the multi-award winning film, His And Hers, on the big screen in Cavan. Described as a "cinematic mosaic", His And Hers tells a love story through the collective voice of 70 women from the midlands, including four from Cavan. The local stars of this beautiful documentary are Mary Harton, Chantel Sheridan, Geraldine Igoe and Eilish Beglan. The film celebrates the ordinary moments that add up to the extraordinary. Individually each piece works on its own, but together they create an emotional portrait that explores the way we share life's journey with others. The hallways, living rooms, and kitchens of the Irish midlands become the canvas for the film's rich tapestry of female characters. The story unfolds sequentially from young to old, and the characters are charmingly unabashed; while the younger contributors are animated in discussing their relationships with their other halves, the older women describe their love, and often their bereft love, with grace and candor. The film has won a plethora of awards as well as public and critical acclaim, and in response to demand, it will be screened in the Storm Cinema, Cavan from this Friday, August 27. The director Ken Wardrop will introduce the film on Friday at 8pm and there will be a questions and answers session after the screening. Local stars Eilish Beglan, Mullahoran was selected for a part in the film after responding to an ad about an audition in Granard. "The film was all about the different stages in life. My part was about the stage where a mother hears that her eldest son has just gotten engaged. It's the start of a movement away from the family, breaking the mould, a sort of new phase." Mary Harton, Mullahoran went to the audition with her daughter, Siobhan, but the producers sought out Mary for a part in the film. "In the film I was talking about my husband, Padraig, how we met when I was 16, how long we were together, how we used to cycle to dances together and share a mineral." Mary and Padraig are over 30 years married and have three sons and two daughters. "We couldn't be any happier. Of course, I was saying how well we got on and they edited that out!" Chantel Sheridan (11), Ballinagh was brought to an audition by her mum, Rosie. It was her first time doing anything like this, and she enjoyed it. "I had to kick a football against the wall and I talked about things while sitting on my bed. I talked about horse-riding." She also talked about her dad, Philip. "He had a sore toe and was in hospital. His toe blew up!" Geraldine Igoe, Cootehill brought her daughter, Leona, to audition for the film and the film crew took an interest in Geraldine and persuaded her to audition. "When they came to the house to film, it was very relaxed and they were lovely. I would be in the 40s age group. I was talking about my work, how I met my husband in the White Horse Hotel when I was only 17, and about my children." Anniversary The special screening coincides with the ten year anniversary of the opening of Storm in Cavan. Katherine Argue, general manager, Storm Cinema, Cavan thanks to the people of Cavan for all their continued support. "Having the director of this award-winning film for the first screening to coincide with our tenth birthday is a big honour and privilege," said Katherine, adding that the screening is open to all patrons and will be preceded by a wine and cheese reception. The popular family-friendly cinema runs promotions regularly and their recent 3D screenings were a big hit. • Opening of His And Hers by director Ken Wardrop this Friday at 8pm, with film running nightly for the following week, starting at 8pm.
