Gallant Challenge for St. Christopher's Hospice

The annual gallant challenge which has raised an incredible €170,000 for St. Christopher's Hospice over the past six years will take place once again on Saturday, October 23. You are all invited to either jog, walk, run or cycle for this very worthy cause and top TV celebrity Sean Gallagher of Dragon's Den fame will also be participating this year. Sean is one of Ireland's top 100 entrepreneurs and, as he says himself, learned at an early age that hard work was the only way to overcome life's difficulties. The full challenge from Cavan town to Cornafean is a total of 15 kilometers and if you don't feel up to doing this full route, there is the option of just going from Ballinagh to Cornafean, which is a distance of just seven kilometers. The Cavan to Cornafean challenge will commence at the Cathedral at 2pm and registration commences at 1pm; while the event from Ballinagh will commence outside of Brady's at 2.30pm with registration at 1.30pm. The challenge will conclude outside the Cornafean GAA clubrooms where all participants will receive a medal. There will also be refreshments and shower facilities available. In recent years at St. Christopher's Hospice in Cavan the palliative care services have been extended to 13 respite/residential beds. The excellent home care service team continues to operate from the hospice complex. All monies received/donated towards the walk will go to the physical upkeep of the hospice and the provision of expensive specialist equipment and the renewal needs that arise in the normal course of running a high-grade facility such as St. Christopher's Hospice. Further major developments are planned over the coming two years. The hospice is known as a home from home for users and visitors alike. The people at Cavan hospice stress that the support of the voluntary committee is absolutely vital for the future of facility. Sponsorship cards are available from St. Christopher's Hospice, 049-4332999; Market Bar, Arva, 049-4335569; Ciaran Weir, 086-0753309; Jim Lalor, Cavan, 087-9790107; Willie Hughes, Arva, 086-3584700 and the Village Food Store, Crossdoney, 049-4367933.
