Tairbirt Hall residents promise to ‘keep it lit’
These may be dark times for the country but the citizens of Tairbirt Hall, Belturbet have seen the light for the first time in four years. The residents and Cllr. Elizabeth McDermott welcomed the fact that the estate, adjacent to the Noghan area, has been illuminated. Cllr. McDermott said she had been campaigning for a long time to have lighting provided and she thanked executive area engineer Paul Mulligan for his efforts in the matter. The developer had put the infrastructure in place when the houses were built, but the lights were never powered up. Cllr. McDermott said the council had taken over the estate, the necessary transactions with the ESB were complete and the power was on. One resident, Clare Campbell, said it was great to see the street lighting on: “It will make a real difference from a safety point of view – it has been really dangerous getting out of the car over the years and people have tripped over the kerbs. You can now see the path to the door and get the key in the door. It will make everything much easier and safer.†It is a friendly estate and a nice place to live, according to Clare, and she agreed with a smile that it was nice to see lights going on some place in the country at this time. The road leading past the estate is narrow according to Cllr. McDermott and dangerous for people walking there. She added that everyone takes great pride in the area and come spring they hope to plant shrubs, flowers and put up hanging baskets. “We will continue to take pride in our area and now that we have the lights, we are going to keep it lit.â€
