Camp survivor tells a moving tale
Moyne CS enjoyed a historical visit from Tomi Riechental, one of three concentration camp survivors of WWII living in Ireland. At the age of nine Tomi and his family were imprisoned in the Bergan Belsan camp, where he witnessed and endured unimaginable scenes of humanity's inhumanity towards each other. Tomi is a warm and open character and staff and students hold the utmost respect for his ability and willingness to share his experience with them. The talk on November 18 and touched the hearts of all present. One student said: “I am so proud to have met this man and now WWII is more than just figures and dates... it is someone's life story.†A massive thank you to Tomi and all teachers involved. Conor the Great: As part of the Local Government module in TY a mock student president election was held on November 16. First years were entertained by the lively presentations by candidates Conor Hawkins and Paul Bouchier. Both tried their best to win their voters over but in the end Fianna Paul lost out to a victorious Conor. We are assured however there are no hard feelings between the rivals. Jewish Museum: On November 15 the 4A2 RE class travelled to the Jewish Museum and Synagogue as part of their studies of the major world religion. The speaker there gave everyone a great insight into the life of a Jewish person and the customs and beliefs of Judaism were brought to life. This was an interesting and worthwhile trip. We look forward to seeing your follow up projects guys! Moyne's got talent: We always knew us Moyne crew were a talented bunch, especially after last year's talent show, and here's the proof again! Ríl Óg is a traditional music group, of young people from the surrounding areas. Maria Matthews, Liam Doherty and younger sister Laura, Cillian Hourican, Emmett Lynch and Hannah McEntee are launching their CD on December 3 at 8pm in the Breffini Arms Hotel, Arva. Everyone in Moyne CS wishes them the best of luck and are sure to hear you on the airwaves in the not so distant future! It's not just the students with the talent in Moyne CS, there is also is a talented actress hiding on the first corridor! Ms Moffatt will take to the stage for the Cilloe Yew Tree Players' three one-act plays in the Last Tango in Ennybegs. Break a leg Ms Moffatt! Junior Students took part in a Romeo and Juliet workshop and Senior Students took part in a Hamlet workshop. One student said: “It brought the play to life.†Thanks to Mr. McCann for organising the event. Green Schools: the committee is doing fantastic work at the minute, as senior boys patrol the dining hall at lunchtime. Hopefully their gentle coaxing towards the correct rubbish bins will eliminate the canteen waste and achieve a cleaner, greener school. Conor Hawkins and Paul Bouchier
