Garda Ladies Choir and Phil Callery for fundraiser

A Crosserlough woman has enlisted the help of the Garda Ladies Choir and a member of The Voice Squad to help put on a fundraising concert in support of an African Aids charity. Teresa Callery is set to travel to Uganda in July to complete a three week work placement with the A-Z Children's Charity (A-ZCC). She will be working on health, education and community outreach projects, which provide support for vulnerable children and will be part of a team to help build a house for a Ugandan family. Over 80% of children born with HIV in Uganda will die before their fifth birthday because of the lack of HIV services. Of the 110,000 HIV-infected children in Uganda only two per cent are getting the life-saving medication (Anti-Retroviral Medication) necessary to enable them to lead normal, healthy lives. A-ZCC now help 200 HIV infected children every year. Although A-ZCC is only helping a small number of HIV infected children and adults, the impact of this programme has been huge. Without their support most of these children and adults would be dead. Teresa is covering the cost of flights and accommodation herself. She has a target to raise a minimum of €2,000 for the charity. All of the money raised goes directly to the charity. Teresa hopes that the concert in the Ramor Theatre, Virginia on Friday, March 25 will help reach that target. The Garda Ladies Choir, from Dublin, top the bill with special guest artist, Phil Callery of Voice Squad fame also appearing.  The Garda Ladies Choir was formed in 1986 and since that time, the choir has entertained audiences country-wide and has raised thousands of Euros for charities, hospitals, churches and schools playing major venues across the country from the National Concert Hall to the Waterfront in Belfast. Membership is drawn from within the force, extended family members and the general public. The choir, under the direction of Rodney Baldwin, boasts an extensive repertoire and in 2005 recorded a CD entitled Rún Mo Chroí. Talented singer Phil Callery who has guested on albums including Sinead O'Connor's, Christy Hennessey's, and Jimmy McCarthy's will also perform. Phil has toured extensively with The Voice Squad. Bookings at the Ramor at 049-8547074.
