Three-day turnaround "disgraceful"

The dust hasn't settled on Cavan's heroic win over Tyrone in the Ulster Under 21 final last night (Wednesday) but thoughts are already turning to the All Ireland semi-final in two days' time, a turnaround time which selector Ronan Carolan branded as "absolutely disgraceful", WRITES PAUL FITZPATRICK. Speaking immediately after the match, Carolan - a physiotherapist and member of the medical welfare committee in Croke Park - slammed the decision to deny Cavan sufficient time to recover and prepare for the match against Wexford. "We broached that subject a few days ago, both Tyrone, Cavan and Wexford, and seriously I would be very, very concerned for player welfare," he told The Anglo-Celt. "We're coming off the field here, a lot of our players are absolutely fatigued and are expected to play in three days time. This is the biggest achievement for many of these players to date. It's totally and utterly unfair and in fact it's absolutely disgraceful. We are going off to the Slieve Russell for a conditioning session and they really cannot enjoy this victory because we have to prepare for what will be the next biggest game of their lives." At the time of writing, it appears that the semi-final will definitely go ahead at 7pm this Saturday in Parnell Park.
