Clones postal staff to be relocated to Monaghan town
Plans to relocate six members of the postal staff in Clones, including all the delivery and collection staff, to Monaghan on a permanent basis are well under way and are scheduled for the next few weeks. The plans, when implemented, will mean that the present sorting office at the old Post Office on the Diamond in Clones will close, all sorting will be carried out in Monaghan and there are fears that this will not only affect the local postal service but will have a negative impact on the local economy. Town councillor, Peter Mulligan, said this week that he will be raising the matter at the town council meeting next week and he has already asked Deputy Sean Conlan (FG) to seek a meeting with the communications minister on the issue. For a full report on the issue, see this week's Anglo-Celt.
