Oxigen scraps plan for recycling park at Corranure

The future of the landfill site at Corranure and the planned recycling facilities there remains uncertain this week after Oxigen Environmental Ltd took a last-minute decision to ditch plans for a biological treatment facility and recycling park at the location. The company withdrew its planning application for the integrated recycling facility from An Bord Pleanála on Friday, although oral hearings were scheduled to begin yesterday morning (Tuesday) in the Cavan Crystal Hotel. It now appears that Oxigen has withdrawn completely from the Corranure facility and, as such, an agreement with Cavan County Council that is worth an estimated €1.5m annually to the local authority. For a detailed report, see this week's Anglo-Celt.
