Cavan seek revenge on the Tribesmen in minor football clash

Cavan minors' championship odyssey continues this Saturday when they take on Galway in Pearse Park, Longford in the ESB All Ireland Minor Championship quarter-final (throw-in 3pm). As per the Ulster Championship campaign, Cavan's preparations have been low key. County board PRO Declan Woods confirmed yesterday (Tuesday) that there were no injuries to report. Target man Conor Finnegan came through a senior championship match unscathed for Lacken last Friday, while reserve attacker Gary Tubman did likewise in the intermediate for Drumlane against Ballyhaise. Centre-back Conor Moynagh also came on as a sub for Drumgoon against Cavan Gaels and came through it, thankfully, without incurring injury. The Cavan team hasn't been named at the time of going to print but it appears unlikely that joint-managers Gary Donohoe and Dermot McCabe will make many, if any, changes to their starting line-up, which has been consistent through all three championship matches to date. An intriguing sub-plot to the match is the fact that Galway already convincingly defeated Cavan in the Under 21 All Ireland final this season. While this will have no bearing on Saturday, it would be very satisfying for Cavan supporters - around 1,500 of whom are expected to travel to Pearse Park - to gain some token of revenge over the Tribesmen. Not that that will be occupying the thoughts of the Cavan management. Their simple game plan involved moving the ball at pace and tackling furiously, and has been mightily-effective thus far. It will need to be once again against a highly-rated Galway side who disappointed in terrible weather conditions against Roscommon in the Connacht final. Galway are rated as favourites, something which shouldn't perturb Cavan, who have been underdogs in all of their matches to date, as were the Under 21s before their Ulster semi-final and final wins.
