Casey's not there yet, but she's getting there
A Cavan jersey fetched the highest price at a charity auction in Tyrell's Bar, Mullagh last Sunday night - but it was Donegal singer Mickey Joe Harte of You're A Star fame, who stole the show. The night was organised by Tracey Fitzgerald, from Mullagh, whose five-year-old daughter Casey has Cerebral Palsy and needs a €30,000 operation on her legs to help her walk without using a wheelchair or splints. Roughly €4,500 was raised through the event, bringing the fund to about €11,500. "Mickey Joe jumped in beside the band and did his Eurovision song, We've Got The World. Everybody was out on the floor rocking with him. He went down really well, signing tee-shirts and posing for photos." Tracey, who was delighted with how the event went, wanted to thank all who supported it. "It went really well. Everyone was saying how brilliant the night was," said Tracey. "Among the 15 items we auctioned was a Cavan jersey and a Meath one. The Cavan one made €350 and the Meath one €320 - there was a bit of a competition!" Meath football player Joe Sheridan, who made a guest appearance, obliged by donning the Cavan colours for the charity event! Through fundraising, Tracey and her husband Noel are a little over one-third off their target for Casey's operation. "I'd like to thank everyone for giving the fund a boost. Thanks also to Tyrells, Mickey Joe Harte, Joe Sheridan and our sponsors. We're doing very well, and we're only nine weeks into the fundraising." Among upcoming events are: a head shave and wax in Caffrey's, Oldcastle, this Saturday, August 6, at 8pm; hip hop dancing on Grafton Street also this Saturday at 1pm (Donking Rongavilla and Backstreet Dance Studios are organising this street event and hope passersby will join in); a table quiz in the Bridge Bar, Moynalty, on Friday, August 12, at 9pm.
