Army wives' petition to save Cavan barracks

Wives and partners of personnel stationed at Dun Ui Neill Barracks in Cavan have put together a petition of over 5,000 names in less than 48 hours campaign to keep the barracks in Cavan open. The petition was available at a public meeting in the Farnham Arms Hotel on Monday night, which was attended by over 400 people all campaigning against the mooted closure of the installation. The meeting heard from Government TD Joe O'Reilly that no decision has yet been made on the issue. He promised to put the arguments for Dun Ui Neill to Defence Minister, Alan Shatter.
