Alarm at increase in rate of robberies

County councillors this week insisted that Joint Policing Committees must be revamped to become more responsive to their concerns. Councillors just stopped short of seeking its disbandment. The call comes as crime figures for the third quarter of 2011 reveal that burglaries are on the rise in Cavan. According to the CSO there were 181 burglaries committed in Cavan/Monaghan in July, August and September. This compares with 152 in the second quarter of 2011 and 138 in the comparable third quarter for the division in 2010. Full story in this week's Anglo-Celt.
