Nine disadvantaged schools across Cavan avoid cuts

The nine DEIS schools, located in so-called disadvantaged areas around the county, will now not face a reduction in teaching numbers after Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairi Quinn's u-turn on proposed cuts, writes Seamus Enright. The most disadvantaged schools, that's schools falling within the Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools (DEIS) Bands 1 and 2 will now not lose any teachers, and despite teacher pupil ratios increasing by one each year, will retain their teaching numbers until at least 2014.
