Captain O'Reilly admits performances 'aren't good enough'

Cavan captain Padraic O'Reilly has admitted that the performances against Offaly and Roscommon "weren't good enough" but insists that the players are working very hard on the training pitch. "What happened out there and happened last week, it wasn't good enough, we know it wasn't good enough," said the Ballinagh man. "What we're doing on the training field doesn't seem to be transpiring on the pitch and we have to address that but we're going out to get a win [against Antrim], you have to finish the league on a high." Informed that Offaly had been beaten and that Cavan would be safe should they lose again, O'Reilly commented: "That may be the case but we're going out the next day, in front of a home crowd... you have to beat Antrim, it's backs to the wall stuff and we have to deliver a performance. " Cavan's failure to grab a point or two when Roscommon got on top proved their undoing, he said. "They kind of got two bursts, one in the first half and one in the second half, and between the two they probably got 10 or 11 points, five each time on the bounce and that kind of killed us off... "We needed to stop the flow with a point or two and we didn't and it's very hard when teams get a bit of a run on you. I suppose we needed that bit of experience out there to win another couple of balls out the field but we just didn't seem to have it. "Once they kind of got a run on us, they got into the lead and we started chasing the game. I think we forced it probably a bit too early again, we should've played it through the hands, it was working early in the first half and we should've stayed with that, we were kicking in long balls and we started that too early. It didn't pay any dividends today. "We started all guns blazing and when they got a bit of a foothold, the bit of intensity died. I suppose when we were on the back foot that's when we needed to dig in and tag on a couple of points to stem the momentum and we didn't do it. "
