Public meeting for The Gathering Cavan
A public meeting takes place tonight (Wednesday, July 11) at 8pm in the Kilmore Hotel, Cavan to discuss plans for the Cavan Gathering event next year. A steering group has been established which includes representatives from public bodies and the voluntary sector. The Gathering Ireland 2013 is a people's project. Community projects already underway throughout Ireland include clan gatherings, genealogical projects, school reunions, twin-town visits and an outreach initiative where local communities will contact people who have left the country. Local Gathering organisations are being set up in every county, comprising sporting bodies, cultural and musical organisations, local authorities, local development companies and representative bodies. This is your opportunity to come along, find out more and share your ideas for getting your community involved. Chairman of the Gathering steering committee and County Manager, Jack Keyes, emphasised the importance of community involvement in plans for The Gathering 2013 saying: "The Gathering Ireland 2013 offers Cavan an opportunity to build on the success of the national Fleadh Cheoil being held in Cavan for the last three years and open our arms to our vast networks of friends, families and contacts overseas. We have a strong sense of community here in Cavan so I'd urge anyone with an interest or an idea to come along to the meeting and help make 2013 a great year for Cavan." They're looking forward to hearing all of your ideas on Wednesday 11th July in the Kilmore Hotel, Dublin Road, Cavan at 8m. All are welcome to attend and if you need further information see The Gathering website or contact Paddy Connaughton on 049 4378600.
