What: 1798 Commemoration Weekend - Comhra Ceol agus Craic le Ciorcal Comhra Ard Mhacha. Longford historian and author Jude Flynn will give a talk on 1798 in Co Longford, followed by music song and poetry. All are welcome to come along and bring a musical instrument or any memorabilia e.g. pikes muskets flags etc. from the period. 8pm until Late. Barn dance, barbecue Where: Stradone Community Centre When: Saturday, September 8, What: Fundraising barbecue and barn dance in aid of Laragh GFC, the camogie club and Stradone community centre. Music by The Outlaws and DJ Red Rave. Licensed bar with dancing 10pm-2am. Admission €10. Gospel concert Where: Cloverhill Hall When: Saturday, September 8, 8-10.30pm What: Annual gospel concert in aid of Sue Trenier's work. Admission is free. Your support would be welcome. Refreshments will be served. Book Launch Where: Boomerang Bar, Granard When: Saturday, September 8, 9pm. What: Granard native Tom Kiernan will launch his book 'Somebody I Never Knew'. Noel Monahan, renowned poet and author and another Granard native, will perform the launch. This is Tom's second book in the series of short stories and we wish him every success with it. Everyone welcome to come along on the night. Charity Ceili Where: Gallonray House When: Sunday, September 9 What: Charity ceile in aid of patient comfort fund, Virginia Health Centre. Music by Copperplate ceili band. Everyone welcome. Annual community walk Where: Drumlane When: Sunday, September 9 What: Drumlane Community Partnership are holding their ninth annual walk. This year is not a sponsored walk but a fun event - please come along. Cycle starting at 2pm, walk/treasure hunt at 2.30pm and then, for those less energetic, a treasure hunt around the community centre at 3pm. Refreshments and a BBQ will be available on return. Padraic McIntyre in conversation with Pat McCabe Where: Backstage Theatre When: Wednesday, September 12 What: The first event of its kind at Backstage it guarantees to offer a rare insight in to McCabe's illustrious career which gave the world The Butcher Boy, Breakfast on Pluto and Shae Mouse amongst others. 'The Night Joe Dolan's Car Broke Down' author and director, Padraic McIntyre has shared a very special working relationship with Pat McCabe ever since their collaboration on the hugely successful tour of The Dead School in 2008.
