Fracking on the agenda in Stormont and Enniskillen

A debate into the contentious issue of fracking will be held in Stormont's upper house next Monday (September 17). The Ulster Unionist Party's Basil McCrea UUP is hosting a debate in the Senate Chamber at 6pm and so far the speakers confirmed include Prof Peter Styles (Keele University), Dr Sandy Steacy (University of Ulster) and Dr John Barry (Queen's University Belfast), and more are expected to be announced. Members of the public will be permitted to speak and ask questions. Given Tamboran Resource's plans to use hydraulic fracturing in County Fermanagh, fracking has been discussed in the Northern Assembly on a number of occasions. Most recently the committee of the Department of Enterprise quizzed members of the Australian based company in June. Meanwhile, closer to home, Dr Aedin McLoughlin of Glenwood Research, is to present an information evening giving the facts about hydraulic fracturing and its implications for agriculture, the economy, human and animal health, tourism, jobs, fishing, pollution and water and air quality. Titled 'Fracking in Fermanagh ~ How will it affect you?' the event will take place on Tuesday, September 25 at 8pm at the Killyhevlin Hotel, Enniskillen and all are very welcome.
