Paul Carroll on Ballustree Luxadam, jumped a double clear in 31.21 to win the Indoor Derby.

Carroll in Luck as he scoops Indoor Derby title

Amateur riders from across Ireland attended Cavan Equestrian Centre for their annual Amateur National Championships last weekend. The Indoor Derby was the main event of the day, where the horse and rider compete over two arenas. Out of 123 starters only 15 made it through to the second round of this event, sponsored by Paddy Kennedy from Kennedy Equi Products. The honours of the evening went to Paul Carroll from Luck Co Dublin on Ballustree Luxadam, jumping a double clear in 31.21. Second place went to Cavan rider Charles O'Hanlon, on his own horse Red & Dead, double clear in 31.37 and third went to Christine Joynt on Clone Ricky Rocketz, double clear in 33.66. The opening class of this hugely successful two day event, was run as a Table C Speed and was won by Nicole Barr on Florida Daydreamer. Second place went to John Cullinan on his own Katzenjammer and third place went to Martin Wilson on Database. Patricia Foley sponsor of the event was on hand to make the presentation. Sunday morning's opening class was kindly sponsored by Reece St John from CWD. Fergal Harrison from Sligo on his own horse Shaggy 9, jumping a very fast clear in 31.15, second place went Ballrennett Lady ridden by Liam Keogh clear in 32.15 and third went to Dale Adams on her own Ola Lara clear in 32.59. The final event of the day was the Kingsland Grand Prix. 95 starters attempted the course designed by resident course builder Stuart Clarke and 26 made it through to the second round. This time it was a win for Joanna Penfold on her own horse King Cruise. Joanna from Templemore in Tipperary jumped a fast clear round in 36.93. Second place went to Sligo rider Kenneth Rush on his own horse Zero Wattage, clear in 37.74 and third place went to Tease Me Tiger ridden by Stephanie Rankin clear in 38.34. The leading Amateur Champion went to Dale Adams, and her prize was a Silver Shadow Solarium, Kindly Sponsored by Jimmy Kelly, who on hand to make the presentation to Dale.
